| The company |
The Guado al Melo winery is located in the hills along the coast of Tuscany, in the heart of the Bolgheri DOC zone.
The efforts of winegrower Michele Scienza and his family provide the winery’s direction.
With generations of rich viticultural experience, they manage their wine estate in accord with the principles of sustainable and natural agriculture, and their wines are made with sound respect for tradition, avoiding the additives and manipulation that can harm the natural qualities of the grapes.
By sponsoring cultural projects we strive to help others to appreciate the millennia-old history of the vine and wine. Nor do we neglect the future, since we maintain close working relationships with researchers and with universities, committed as we are to keep abreast of every new development that will help us adopt agricultural practices that are ever more sustainable.

| The Territory |
The Land: The Tuscan North Maremma
In the past the Maremma was marshy and malaria-infested. After the great reclamation of 1700 it became a mediterranean garden dominated by olive trees, vines and maritime pines and cypresses. It is a countryside of strong contrasts, harsh and sunny in summer, laborious grape harvesting in autumn, mild winters often accompanied by strong winds, green and lush in spring. The ancient villages aren’t on the plain near the sea, the old marsh, but protected in the heights of the hills. The woods are wild and stretch a long way: they give a feeling of something preserved and pure
DOC Bolgheri. DOC Bolgheri extends from the Municipality of Castagneto Carducci (LI) along the Tyrrhene Coast, in the countryside between the hills and the sea, in territory rich in history and traditions. The cultivation of vines and olives has characterized this landscape since time immemorial, thanks to a particularly favourable climate and terrain. The production of Bolgheri wine gained a certain notoriety in Italy and in the world in the 1960s and 70s with the discovery of the tendency of this territory to produce wines of great quality, from the typical Sangiovese to other vines like Cabernet and Merlot.
